The experience
In Greenland, helicopters are usually a lifeline between towns no road or runway can reach. This charter turns that same aircraft into a scenic flight — lifting off from Ilulissat and climbing out over the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord, where icebergs the size of city blocks calve from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier and drift toward Disko Bay.
From the air the scale of the ice becomes impossible to miss. You'll trace the icefjord's full length before pushing on to the edge of the Greenland Ice Sheet itself — a wall of white stretching to the horizon, unbroken for hundreds of kilometres inland. With a cabin capped at five guests, every seat is effectively a window seat.
Your pilot flies this route year-round and narrates as you go — pointing out crevasse fields, calving fronts and, in winter, the chance of seeing the ice from above under aurora-clear skies. Weather has the final say, so flights are scheduled with a buffer and rebooked without fuss if conditions don't cooperate.

What you get
Step by step
Meet your pilot at Ilulissat heliport, get fitted with a headset, and hear the day's route and weather plan.
The helicopter climbs out over the town and harbour, banking toward the mouth of the icefjord.
A low, slow pass along the drifting icebergs of the UNESCO-listed icefjord, with the calving front visible ahead.
The helicopter reaches the edge of the Greenland Ice Sheet and turns, giving both sides of the cabin a clear view of the ice stretching to the horizon.
A gentle descent back into Ilulissat, wheels down at the heliport where the day began.
Practical
Honestly: this is a weather-dependent flight. Wind, low cloud or poor visibility over the icefjord can push departure back by a few hours, or occasionally a full day — the pilot makes that call, not the schedule.
Safety and visibility come first, always. If your flight can't go ahead, you'll be offered a free reschedule to the next available slot or a full refund — no forms, no fuss.

Questions
Purely scenic. In Greenland, helicopters are mostly used to connect towns without road or runway access, but this charter is booked specifically as a sightseeing flight — a round trip over the Ilulissat Icefjord and the edge of the inland ice, landing back where you took off.
Safety and visibility come first. Wind, low cloud or fog can push departure back by hours, or occasionally a full day — the pilot makes that call. If the flight can't run at all, you'll be offered a free reschedule to the next available slot or a full refund, automatically.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure — cancel from your booking confirmation and the refund is issued to your original payment method within 3–5 business days. Inside 24 hours the booking is non-refundable, except for operator weather cancellations, which are always fully refunded.
Yes — all ages are welcome and children under 12 fly at half price (1200 DKK). Every guest needs their own seat and headset, so infants travelling on a parent's lap are not permitted. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the flight.
The cabin is capped at 5 guests plus the pilot, which is why every seat effectively has a window view. Groups of 5 or fewer travelling together are seated on the same flight where possible.
Most guests feel nothing beyond normal flight movement — the route is flown gently with the ice as the focus, not sharp turns. If you're prone to motion sickness, take a standard tablet 30–60 minutes before departure and let the crew know at check-in.
