The experience
Greenland's dark season, roughly September to April, turns the night sky into the main event. Sitting well inside the Arctic Circle, Sisimiut gets long, deeply dark winter nights and a clean, low-pollution horizon — the exact conditions that make this stretch of the west coast one of the most reliable places on Earth to watch the aurora borealis dance overhead.
You'll leave town with your guide once darkness falls, driving and walking a short way away from Sisimiut's streetlights to a dark-sky spot chosen for that night's conditions. From there it's watching, waiting and photographing — your guide checks the forecast, points out where the lights are likely to build, and helps you get a camera setting that actually captures what your eyes are seeing.
Nobody can promise the sky will perform on any single night — the aurora depends on solar activity and clear skies, both outside anyone's control. What's certain is a genuinely dark Arctic sky, hot drinks in hand, and a guide who knows exactly where to look.

An unhurried drive back into town, dropped at your accommodation or the meeting point.
Practical
Honestly: the aurora is never guaranteed on any single night. It depends on solar activity and clear skies, and both can be unpredictable even in a strong season.
If clouds roll in or the sky stays quiet, you can rebook a second attempt for free during your stay. Either way, the winter landscape and an Arctic sky full of stars are worth the trip on their own.

Questions
No — and any tour that promises otherwise isn't being straight with you. In September–April, Sisimiut's dark, low-pollution sky gives you a genuinely strong chance, but the aurora depends on solar activity and clear skies, both outside anyone's control. We say "very good odds", never "guaranteed".
If cloud cover or a quiet aurora keeps the sky from putting on a show, you can rebook a second attempt for free during your stay in Sisimiut, subject to availability. There's no extra charge — we'd rather you see the lights than tick a box.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure — cancel from your booking confirmation and the refund is issued to your original payment method within 3–5 business days. Inside 24 hours the booking is non-refundable, except for operator weather cancellations, which are always fully refunded.
Yes — all ages are welcome and children under 12 join at half price (275 DKK). It's a low-activity evening of watching and waiting rather than anything physical, though younger children may find the late hour and cold more tiring than adults.
None at all. Your guide brings tripods to share, walks you through basic long-exposure settings for your phone or camera, and helps you frame the shot. Plenty of guests join with just a phone and leave with photos they're proud of.
Dress warmer than you think you need to — you'll be standing mostly still outside after dark. Base layers, a warm mid-layer, a windproof outer shell, plus a hat, gloves and wool socks are all recommended. We provide hot drinks and a windbreak, but warm clothing is on you.
